Coat Tree Bench

Seattle, WA

Hinged high figured cherry wood seat allows shoes and slippers to be stored above the ground and out of sight. The sculpture of the tree is designed to grow in a narrow plane from the back of the bench and branch out to the sides and middle. I have 2 flat bases to hold decorative objects and 1 tiger maple cupped vessel for keys. The joinery is the same Sam Maloof made popular in his chairs as I also use in my solid seating of chairs and bar stools.. The "tree" bases are shaped from 3" thick slabs of cherry, some as wide as 9" to allow curves in X,Y and Z axis.
