This is part of my "Table Scraps" line of work. Using wood that was at one time firewood. I buy entire logs from a specialty saw mill in Pennsylvania. The entire log is sliced in 1 1/4" slabs and numbered. The first and last leaves have too high of a sap wood content to use for dining tables but work perfectly for this application. Figure in a log is heaviest the closer to the bark. Hence these this piece is my highest figure of wood that I show. Notice how the grain dances as you walk past the front of the piece.
The seat lifts with invisible hinges and allows storage of shoes supported on a lattice shelf with an open back for ventilation.
