The North Beach Hall Table is based on a collaborative use of materials: the dramatically cantilevered geometry of the wood is literally balanced by the weight of the natural beach stone. Furthermore, the design plays with the usual qualities of the materials - the wood looks sharp and hard, while the organic shape of the stone makes it seem soft by comparison. The North Beach Hall Table is a custom made table. Shown here in european beech, each is unique in its proportions, woods and, of course, the stone. Customers can select from a beautiful variety of stones, or can supply one that is special to them.
One of a variety of deciduous trees native to Europe, Asia, and North America, beech wood is primarily reddish-brown to blonde in color and slightly coarse with conspicuous rays and tiny pores. The grain is straight with a fine, even texture.
This is an example of what sets studio furniture apart from commercial furniture. Any number of materials, including a rock you might find near your home, can be incorporated into a piece and serve both a decorative and functional purpose.
