Looking Inward

A piece of furniture serves a purpose; it can never be solely artistic because it is functional by definition. This desk has relatively traditional design features: four legs, multiple drawers for storage, a simple base and top cabinet, a surface for working and writing. It is essentially a functional piece and the dark primary wood accents that. In contrast, the lighter material is added in fields: on the desk surface, around the top, and at the back. These panels of light and pattern draw your eye away for the ordinary parts of the desk. With any luck, they may even make you forget about the work you are supposed to finish...

Picture of WengeWenge
Wenge is an African wood with a regular, closely spaced grain of dark brown to black color. It is both hard and heavy and works well as either an accent wood or a primary material.
