Anniversary Bed: 30th Anniversary Edition
This 30th Anniversary edition of my queen size Anniversary Bed has a beautiful sunburst veneer pattern of African Mahogany (Khaya) on its head and foot board. The curly figure of the Khaya veneer creates a stunning look. The head and foot board's top edge glow with a band of Yellowheart wood and a thin line of Yellowheart adds a contrasting boarder between the face veneers and the leg structure. Please click on the "additional versions" tab below to see this design built as a King size in solid Cherry, figured Cherry veneer and Walnut burl.
Cherry trees are found throughout the US and Canada. The wood varies from a yellowish pink when first cut to a deep rich reddish brown, often getting darker and more rich as it ages. Its smooth texture and working properties make it a favorite wood among furniture makers.
American black walnut grows in the Eastern US and Canada. It is a popular domestic hardwood with a naturally dark color varying from a purplish brown to a rich red brown.
A burl is a natural growth that can be found on any number of trees. Burls yield a very peculiar and highly figured wood. These are highly valued and sliced into veneers for furniture, inlay, automobile interior paneling and trim.
