Northwest Fine Woodworking
has been a central part of my professional life for almost the
entirety of my career. It has been the pivotal element in my success
as a furnituremaker and artist. Without it I would certainly be
doing something else. It has provided far more than just a place
to sell my work. It has provided a nurturing environment where
I could be influenced by other woodworkers, gain a sense of how
to proceed as a business, learn to be a professional, grow a vision
of the importance of beautifully designed furniture as art, and
maybe more importantly develop important and long lasting relationships
with other people in my creative world. It has not always been easy and has presented many complex challenges. It has also allowed me to use my creativity in different ways than just building furniture and running my own business. The scale of NWFW is beyond anything I would ever attempt myself but with the support and synergy of a larger group we have all been able to accomplish something bigger than ourselves. |

Wenge and Bubinga Buffet features a silverware drawer in the center bay and adjustable shelving (behind the doors). The bubinga and wenge both have a block mottle figure. David Gray is a founding member of the NW Fine Woodworking cooperative and has been building furniture in the Northwest for over thirty years. In that time his furniture has developed a number of distinguishing elements inspired by the love of figure, color, and the intrinsic beauty of wood itself. He particularly enjoys using contrasting woods to capture and emphasize the line and to highlight the natural beauty of the wood. |
